Virtus

All volunteers working with and around children are to attend the Archdiocese program Virtus-Protecting God's Children. Each individual who is volunteering to work with our children need to register on the Virtus website which is www.virtus.org. You may attend any of the sessions within the Kansas City, Kansas Diocese. You do not have to attend a session at the Parish that you will be volunteering at. This allows for more flexibility in your busy schedules. The program is sponsored and monitored by the Archdiocese. A facilitator from the Archdiocese does the presentation.

Here are some helpful hints when registering.

  • First when choosing the Archdiocese/Diocese/Religious Organization that you are working in please pick: Kansas City, Kansas (Archdiocese).
  • The next step is to choose an ID and Password. Pick something that you will remember - write it down in a safe place.
  • Be sure that you choose Sacred Heart Shawnee for your location that you are volunteering in, you may add additional locations if you belong to another parish or volunteer in multiple parishes.
  • You will have an additional spot to choose which location you are desiring to attend the class.
  • Also, when choosing your position or role at the parish that you are volunteering at please be short and specific. If you are working in a children's ministry please list that. ex. School classroom volunteer, teachers aide, SOR catechists, Children's Little Church, Vacation Bible School Volunteer, Brownie Leader
  • If you have any questions on this please call Tracie Kersey at 422-5520 ext 202.

Session times are listed on the website and typically they do last for approx. 3 hours. (we were done last week in 2 1/2 hours) It is important to know that the classes are for adults only and it is not appropriate for you to bring children to the sessions. Please read the notations for the classes some offer snack and drinks, some have special guidelines or instructions as to where to enter or the location of the class at their location.

  • Please know that after the class is attended your attendance will be verified by your signature at the session you signed up for. Please be sure that you sign in at the session to get credit for attending. If you are unable to attend the class that you signed up for do not re-register, please call Susan Carroll or Rita Herken in the Archdiocese office to have them switch your location. The number is 721-1570.
  • Also, after attending if you choose to receive an email reminder you will receive an email from system@virtus.org around the 10th of each month. This email reminder is for the monthly training bulletins. The bulletins take just a few minutes to read and then you are asked one question to answer. This keeps your training up to date and incompliance with the Archdiocese guidelines and recommendation with on-going education. The email is a reminder to log into your account on the Virtus website.

If there any further questions or have difficulties with your account, you may contact our Virtus Coordinator:
